LATA, is the mother goddess of Lycian meaning “woman”. Letoon, the only ancient city named after her, is sacred to the whole nation. She gave birth to her daughter Artemis in Ortygia near Ephesus and her son Letoon in neighbouring Patara. This most highly respected family of gods in the ancient world originated in Anatolia. The enchantingly beautiful Elmalı ivory sculpture depicting the three of them together is proof of this.
